Alberta Wildfires

Alberta has declared a state of emergency in the oilsands community of Fort McMurray. Raging wildfires have forced more than 80,000 people from their homes.  It is the largest wildfire evacuation in Fort McMurray's history.

The Dominican Republic has been facing major flooding in the Northern part of the country. According to a local newspaper, the government is estimating damage of over $200 million.

Erratic rainfall patterns and severe drought conditions across Southern Africa have caused a food insecurity crisis across much of the country.

Ethiopia Food Crisis

A climate disaster linked to a major “El Nino” weather pattern is moving across much of Africa, specifically southern eastern regions. Ethiopia is one of the hardest hit countries with an estimated 10.2 million people needing food because of crop failure. The World Health Organization estimates “400,000 Ethiopian children will face severe malnutrition in 2016”.
