COVID-19 Global Emergency

donate to ERDO

According to the United Nations, COVID-19 has the potential to double the number of people suffering from acute hunger to 250 million by the end of 2020.

Today, we are asking those who are able, to give generously and help support the most vulnerable people during this unprecedented global pandemic. In addition to COVID-19, some of the countries where we are working are experiencing floods, drought or locust infestations.  All of these things contribute to extreme hunger.

ERDO is already working with partners to distribute food, but much more is needed.  Your donation today will provide additional food and hygiene items for families, and protective supplies for field staff to keep them safe too.

Here are just some of the ways your donation today will make a difference:

Food: $60-95 per family

Hygiene: $30-60 per family

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): $60-70

These are just some of the new projects that need funds today:

  • Cambodia: Emergency food and hygiene supplies for about 3,000 beneficiaries
  • Sri Lanka: Emergency food for approximately 2,000 people
  • Colombia: Emergency food to help 600 people
  • Rwanda: Emergency food and hygiene supplies for 650 beneficiaries, as well as protective supplies for community health workers
  • Turkey: Health and hygiene packs for 500 people
  • Bangladesh, Kenya: COVID-19 hygiene kits distributed to about 4,500 people (including hand and laundry soap with printed visual instructions)
  • Zimbabwe: Food assistance for some 650 people dealing with drought and COVID-19
  • Bangladesh: Emergency food packages for about 2,000 people impacted by COVID-19 and the recent cyclone
  • Uganda: Assistance for approximately 4,800 people in the Rhino Camp, a settlement area for refugees arriving from South Sudan. Needs include training on virus prevention and the distribution of personal safety equipment

Thank you for your generosity.

Please read stories below of how we have already been helping people with food during this global pandemic.

Thailand

ERDO's Jeff Hackett recently interviewed our PAOC global worker partner in Thialand, Matthew Price. Matthew Price said, "From the 461 families we work with, we identified the most vulnerable. Some were still in a position where the economy wasn’t as hard hit where they were, or they had farms so they could produce their own food. We really wanted to identify those who had the greatest and most immediate need, so we identified 293 sponsored children and their families who needed extra help. With extra funding from ERDO we were able to provide food parcels, and be able to practically say, “We are with you. We are in your corner and you’re not alone.”

Ethiopia

The ChildCARE Plus staff in Ethiopia has started a food assistance program for students in the menstrual hygiene management training program and their families. This program teaches girls sustainable production, business management and sales of menstrual hygiene products. All food is being and awareness training is taking place while social distancing, with plenty of room between those receiving food and COVID-19 prevention training.
