On the morning of August 14th, Haiti experienced a 7.2 magnitude earthquake 150 km south-west of Port au Prince. Shortly after the earthquake, ERDO was in communication with global workers and church partners, and were assured of their safety and the safety of the ChildCARE Plus sponsored children.
However, the needs were critical. As of August 21st, Haiti’s Civil Protection reports more than 2,200 deaths and 12,200 injured. Almost 53,000 homes were destroyed, and more than 77,000 are damaged. It's estimated that about 800,000 people have been affected and an estimated 650,000 people are in need of humanitarian assistance.
In mid-August, we partnered with the Assemblies of God Haiti, local churches and community leaders in Les Cayes and the surrounding areas. We put together emergency food, hygiene and household supply packages for 900 families, 4,500 of the most impacted people.
These packages included rice, beans, cooking oil, pasta, soap and hygiene and household items.
Now, one month after the earthquake we are starting another response to provide safe shelters for families. We will be building hurricane and earthquake-resistant homes to give people permanent shelter and help prepare families for future disasters.
Thank you for you partnership as we enter this stage of rebuilding while continuing to provide for people's everyday needs.
Please donate today so that we can reach families in their time of need. On behalf of those you will assist, thank you for your generous donation.
