Haiti Feeding Program

Feeding a friend at the Haiti feeding programMichel and Louise Charbonneau, long-serving PAOC Global Workers in Haiti, lead a church, feeding program and child sponsorship program. The feeding program has taken place since 1997, when they first started it in their backyard.

Did you know?
• Haiti has a population of approximately 10,788,440 people
• 42% of people in Haiti are under 18 years old
• National unemployment rate is 40.6%
• Across the country, over 200,000 children remain out of school

How many meals are the children receiving?
The children are fed once a week, on Sundays. During the school year, students are provided with filtered water and nutritious food. This is a special time together where children not only share food, but are able to interact and laugh together as a large group.

What do they eat?
Students are provided with hearty meals of rice and beans with a special sauce made out of fish and vegetables. Children greatly look forward to this special meal together each week.

How many children are being fed?
On Sundays, there are two different groups. We feed the 3 to 11 years old and the helpers (around 500). At the school, we also feed 725 students. That is a total of approximately 1,225 individuals each week.

Where is the feeding program?
The feeding program is located at the secure grounds of the ministry centre in Port-au-Prince.
