ChildCARE Plus in Kenya

More than 600 children are assisted through our ChildCARE Plus programs in Kenya.  Program areas include Nairobi, Pehucci, Turkana and Kisumu (a Villages of Hope location).  Working with PAOC Global workers Heather Chaloner, Deborah Sirjoosingh and Janice Foss and program partner Rob Beyer children who live in abject poverty are assisted.

Through a $41 a month donation, a child can attend school, have access to nutritious food and healthcare and be spiritually nurtured by our on-the-ground ChildCARE Plus community representatives.

Community Development - Water

Water is essential to life.  In Turkana, Kenya, the environment is very dry and access to water is not good.  ERDO is concentrating on helping to bring fresh water to Turkana by beginning three borewells.  Water is difficult to access as the drilling rigs need to be brought up from southern Kenya and drill several hundred metres before accessing safe clean water sources below the earth.

Crisis Response in Kenya

The 2011 drought and subsequent famine in East Africa required ongoing food aid response during 2012. Longer term food security programs were also necessary to bring about stability in this region.

PAOC Global Worker Deborah Sirjoosingh, who oversees two medical clinics located in Turkana, witnessed first-hand the effects of hunger.  She saw an increased number of families coming to the medical clinics with malnourished children and in search of food.  ERDO was able to respond with an emergency food aid program in partnership with the Canadian Foodgrains Bank accessing matched funding from the Canadian Government. This program is assisting over 6,500 people with monthly distribution of maize, beans, cooking oil and high protein cereal.

We were also able to work with a national partner to provide animal fodder to save the animals of widows who relied on the animals for their food and income.
