ERDO partners with the Pentecostal Assemblies of Zimbabwe and the Village of Hope Zimbabwe to provide the ChildCare Plus program to 450 children.
Pentecostal Assemblies of Zimbabwe cares for vulnerable children through the church network in Zimbabwe. These children live with their families and sponsorship provides the opportunity to go to school.
Village of Hope Zimbabwe
The majority of the children in our Zimbabwe programs live with their families in communities throughout Zimbabwe, however there are some children who are either orphaned or not able to live in a family setting. The Village of Hope in Harare, the capital city of Zimbabwe, provides a safe and loving home to these children. Children live in homes with a caring house mother and attend the VOH school. In addition to the children who live at the village, sponsorship is also offered to children in the surrounding community enabling them to receive an excellent education and daily meal at the primary and secondary school located at the village.

In partnership with Canadian Foodgrains Bank, ERDO provides an In-School Feeding program to over 17,000 children daily. This program is run by ERDO’s partner Child Care Ministries and reaches communities where many families cannot provide even one full meal per day for their children. The children receive a highly nutritious blended cereal called CSB+ (Corn Soya Blend Plus). The program is located in southern Zimbabwe in the regions of Tshlotshlo and Esibobvu and runs in 16 rural community schools.

ERDO also supports a smaller feeding program for community children in Harare which is run under the direction of PAOC Global Workers, Gaye and Elizabeth Norrie.
ERDO is also involved in helping communities to increase the amount and types of food they are able to produce. In Tshlotshlo, southern Zimbabwe through our partner Child Care Ministries, ERDO is supporting a program that teaches community members farming skills that conserve water and don’t rely on expensive chemicals and inputs. Crops include sweet potatoes, ground nuts and sugar beans. The agricultural activities are carried out at 3 of the 16 schools where ERDO has In School Feeding programs.

In partnership with the Pentecostal Assemblies of Zimbabwe, through the generosity of ERDO donors, two new wells will be dug to benefit vulnerable communities. Construction is expected to begin later in 2016.
Thanks to the support of the Life campaign, in 2012 three much needed water wells were drilled at community school sites to help serve school children, their families and support school agricultural programs like gardens to feed the children and market to raise additional funds for the schools.
ERDO drilled a well at the community of Good Hope. The housemothers caring for children at this VOH site are thrilled that they no longer have to fetch water from other wells in the morning in pails, to be able to flush toilets and to bath.
