Thanikai
Thanikai is a sweet and kind young girl who lives with her parents and sister in Sri Lanka. Thanikai's father works hard as a labourer, and her mother is currently unemployed. Though her parents work hard to try to make ends meet, what little they earn is often insufficient to meet the family's needs. This family struggles daily to survive.
Primary education in Sri Lanka is free and compulsory for children up to grade five, but many families do not have the means to afford the school supplies their children need to attend. As a result, children often work as child labourers to help earn income for their families. Through ChildCARE Plus sponsorship, Thanikai will be provided with the supplies she needs to continue her education, attending on a regular basis. Thanikai enjoys learning English, and in her free time, she likes to play with her friends. Her favourite Bible story is about Elijah, and blue is her favourite colour.
