Thandiwe
Thandiwe is a friendly and happy young girl who lives with her mother and sister in a home with no running water or electricity in Malawi. Thandiwe has cerebral palsy and epilepsy, and relies on her mother for most daily tasks. Sadly, her parents are separated, and although her mother does her best to provide for her needs, her income is unstable as a single parent. What little she is able to earn is insufficient to provide for the family's needs. Life is an ongoing struggle for Thandiwe and her family. ChildCARE Plus has partnered with Children Of Blessing Trust to provide vulnerable children like Thandiwe with access to medical attention, nutritious food, clothing, quality education, and loving care.
Children with special needs in Malawi face daily challenges for acceptance in a society that discriminates against disabilities. Through ChildCARE Plus sponsorship and the COBT program, Thandiwe will have access to the medical care and therapy classes that she needs to live life to her fullest potential. Education for children with specialized needs is a great privilege in Malawi, as most schools do not have the resources to accommodate them. Thandiwe enjoys playing with her friends, and pink is her favourite colour. When she grows up she would like to be a nurse.
