Uwemi
Uwemi is a friendly young boy with cerebral palsy and speech difficulties who lives with his parents in a small home without electricity or running water in Malawi. Uwemi's father works hard as a welder, but his work is inconsistent, and his mother must care for Uwemi's needs, so is unable to work. Despite their efforts, the family struggles to get by. ChildCARE Plus has partnered with Children Of Blessing Trust to provide vulnerable children like Uwemi with access to medical attention, nutritious food, and quality education.
Children with special needs in Malawi face daily challenges for acceptance in a society that discriminates against disabilities. Through ChildCARE Plus sponsorship and the COBT program, Uwemi will have access to the medical care and therapy classes that he needs to gain physical strength and mobility. Education for children with specialized needs is a great privilege in Malawi, as most schools do not have the resources to accommodate them. Uwemi enjoys playing with his friends, and his favourite colour is green. He wants to be a doctor when he grows up.
