Somaliland is slowly emerging out of a period of severe drought. However, in rural areas, these conditions have led to increased malnutrition rates and outbreaks of cholera, particularly among children.

To help children facing malnutrition, ERDO is launching a five-month nutrition project in 13 villages across Somaliland, Somalia. This project will deliver nutritional therapeutic supplements (Plumpy’Nut) to 3,000 children. In addition to distribution, we will be partnering with local Maternal and Child Health Centers to conduct mobile outreach, seeking out malnourished and at-risk children.

What is Plumpy’Nut?
A peanut based-paste that includes skimmed milk powder, sugar, vegetable fat, vitamins and minerals. It is reported that experts say the paste has “radically” changed the lives of severely malnourished children in developing countries.”

Project goal is to:
• Decrease malnutrition rates and increase nutrition rates among children under the age of five in the Sanaag and Sool regions
• Provide 3,000 malnourished children with life-saving Plumpy’Nut

Thanks to the Canadian government and private donor matching grants, donations will be matched 7x! That means when you donate $10, it will become $70 of life-saving food!

Your donations are greatly appreciated. Please give generously.

Peanut allergies have not been an issue with Plumpy’Nut due to a lack of allergic reactions in the target populations of Africa and Asia.
