Crisis Response 2017

Somalia Drought Emergency

little boy in SomaliaTwo million Somalis are at the brink of facing starvation!

Despite working hard to cultivate the land to feed their own families, severe weather has taken the hope of food away. Where April to June usually brings rain, this is now one of the driest seasons recorded in more than 35 years.

At the same time as drought impacted most of the country, other parts of Somalia received too much rain too quickly which caused significant damage to planted crops. Both weather-related situations have put access to food in extreme crisis.

Seedlings and plants have withered or been washed away. In addition to the 2+ million Somalis facing immediate starvation, there are over 5.4 million people across the country who are projected to be food insecure and have no certainty where their next meal will come from.

Will you join us as we reach the hungry in Somalia? Our plan is to provide emergency food to approximately 4,000 people per month for three months.

Your gift of:

  • $93 will provide one family with emergency food for three months

Through our partnership with the Canadian Foodgrains Bank, your donation towards food will be matched 4:1. That means, your donation of $100, becomes $500 of life-saving food.

Your gifts are greatly appreciated. Thank you very much for your generosity.
