Sri Lanka Flood Response
Updated: July 18, 2017
There was a great need among the families affected by the floods and landslides in the Kegalle region; the children in these areas lost their school books and stationary items, and found it difficult to go to school. As most of these children came from impoverished households, they were in great need to find a way to return to school and resume their education. To support these children, our local program partner distributed 200 school packs in early July for students in the worst areas affected by the floods. Students from 32 schools benefited from this distribution. These areas were excluded from other relief efforts carried out by the government and other organizations.

Background
Over the last month, there has been massive flooding in Sri Lanka. As of today, over 200 have died, another 90 are missing and more than half a million people have been displaced. Many throughout the country have lost family members as well as their homes in the flooding and landslides.

ERDO is partnering with the National Christian Evangelical Alliance of Sri Lanka (NCEASL) to help those affected by the floods in two phases:
Phase One: Emergency Food and Hygiene Packs
Provide 100 vulnerable families with:
- emergency food rations (rice, lentils, canned fish, oil)
- hygiene kits (soap, mosquito nets, sleeping mats)
- Your gift of $43 will provide one family with emergency food rations and a hygiene kit.
Phase Two: School Packs for Children
Provide 175 school children with school packs:
- approximately 10 school books; school backpack, lunch box, water bottle + more
- a pair of shoes
- Your gift of $33 will provide one child with a school pack.
Your donations are greatly appreciated. Thank you for your support.
